Dear Ms. Cerrutti,
The in class presentations have deepened my insight in the Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury.
1. The discussions I had within my group were very educational.
a. The emphases on certain pages in the book allowed me to focus my attention on a particular section and analyze it for its independent significance and then relate it back to the book. When primarily reading the novel I only skimmed the surface on many chapters. Slowing down and taking the time to completely understand them was gratifying.
i. Matt Timms and I were assigned to analyze the chapter “Way in the Middle of the Air” but more specifically I was assigned to examine the language. When first glancing at the chapter, I saw no immediate importance. The language reminded me of that seen in Mark Twain’s Huckelberry Finn. However the more I studied it I discovered the hidden use of language. Language was used as a symbol to show the superiority of whites to blacks however, on higher level it shows their equality. Both races use improper grammar however, the blacks are ridiculed. Race is then used as a scapegoat for the Whites to gain power.
b. Analyzing the novel first hand was an accomplishment within itself however, I gained even more insight as the other groups presented.
2. Specifically, Group 5’s interpretation of “The Alien” clarified my understanding.
a. To help their explanation, they divided human problems into three areas. excess love, excess selfishness, and excess ignorance.
i. Excess love as seen in Mr. and Mrs. LaFarge, leads to vulnerability. Both characters mourn their son’s death and will not let go of death. When Tom arrives Mr. Tom states on page 121, “You do want me to be here, don’t you?”. Mr. La Farges says “Yes, yes Tom!”. Tom replies, “Then why ask questions. Accept me!” Mr. LaFarge knows Tom cannot be real but he is blinded by his excess love. His vulnerability enables him to accept an illusion. Mr. La Farge also displays his vulnerability when he leaves the door unlatched in hopes that Tom would enter. He left himself and his wife susceptible to other outside threats.
ii. The La Farges illustrate excess selfishness and ignorance when they chase Tom throughout the town. Mr. La Farge literally searches the entire city just to find Tom. Their selfishness will not allow them to release their bond to the illusion of their son. They will fight to regain what is not their property. Their excess ignorance also blinds them form viewing Tom’s true nature. The more they believe in Tom the harder it becomes to relinquish him. Excess selfishness leads to violence much like excess ignorance.
b. At the end of the chapter Tom is killed because of these three human flaws.

Hola so i kinda forgot about livejournal stuff for a while but i don't really think that anyon estill does it anymore

but anyways it took me like half an hour to log in to this bad boy

hey everyone. well i've been swimming alot in tina's pool. *thanks tina* and eating alot of coldstone. roxy and fiona and alice and i got the ULTIMATE BUCKET.
yesterday i went to the henderson's beach house and hung out. it was pretty awesome. we went swimming and i BODY SURFED!!
then the girls demolished the boys in beach volleyball. and i totally stepped on this guys foot i think his name was stephen or scotty or something and i feel really bad about it. sorry!!

nothing exciting has happened. i've had volleyball this ENTIRE week from 6-30 to 9-30 at night so like my whole day is shot.
i just want to have fun this summer. but no one ever calls me so i sit at home and eat.

so yesterday was awesome
it started out earlie in the morn
well it was 10:30 but thats still earlie
roxy and i walke to the y )ymca(
she said it was close but it really was like an hour walk
but by the time we made it there we were all "warmed up"
and we swam con alex in the pool for ever and we got worked
then we left
and we went to my house and made TEAL cup cakes
and then we went to julia's house
we chillaxed with julia wang alex chang randall steph michael
then we walked steph to dance class and went to walgreens
then we walked to an abandoned house and were fallowed by katie
this house was so freaky but definately cool
so that was my exciting day
oh and my name is no longer nicole i must be refered to as gb "ghetto booty". even though i don't have one that is my name accoriding to alex and michael oh and roxy is chang and amy is wang

hey everyone. man this week has been pretty fun.
we went to alices house and watched dirty dancing. o man diego luna is soo hot but:
only when he is sweaty, dancing, speaks in spanish, and when the lighting is just right!
and then we went to stephanies house. i thought we were gonna go swimming and stuff but no one brought their stuff so here i was (and roxy and amy) in our bathing suits
but it was so much fun we watched extreme dodgeball and grease. i can't believe some people had never seen it before.
we got home really late thanks to riley but its all gravy. the next day i went to see the village again for the second time.
and alex conrad and i scared yoni soo bad. he jumped like 20 feet out of his chair. he was so pissed at us.
so thats it..untill next time

so its been an intresting week so far. my back hurts like a mofo so i've been icing it like crazy.
and let me tell you i'm on the count-down for summer volleyball to end. i mean its not so bad except its right in the middle of the day so you have to plan around it!
but on the brighter side there was this really hot guys staying with us this weekend ... to bad he graduated this summer..way out of my league!
this summer sucks. there are like burst of fun-ness but then i just get really bored.
so most of the time i spend at home watching tv in my room. i'm all pro- at channel surfing..let me tell you!
so if anyone out there is bored just like me..we should hang out so gimmie a call.

i went to the beach today to watch the avp tour.
two of my coaches were playing and they both lost.
but i'm still proud of them especially since one of them won the last tournament for about 30, 000 dolars
but i had alot of fun just chilaxn and checking out the amazingly hot guys
o and by the way i officially passed dr. ed and i will be getting the permit soon so..parked cars had best watch out--jay kay
volleyball has been sorta funn. one more week---yah!---

Hey my people. last night...i saw spidey two. um..it was an intresting movie. much better than the first but not good enough if u noe what i mean.
so last night alex cheated on me with roxy. jay kay. but i was supposed to ask this kid if he wanted to go get some chow mein later with me.
but his mom was sitting next to him and he was holding his little brother so i was all like NO WAY.
so then later we met with sally and gabbi and her friend and tom-tom-and peps. o and of course we saw jeff l. on a date!!!!
cool-ness...but u noe what is not cool..i hve summer school on mon. but the cool part is, so does a certain young fellow who by the way is extremely HOT!!! no names can be mentioned but his name rhymes with "bonny"-lol

hey everyone!
so nothing really exciting has happened.
i got my hair cut yesterday...not that u can really tell!
ii also went to community service at the library. little kids are so slow....i'm never gonna have any kids
i also went to my volleyball game and sat on the sideline because i missed practice. o well we lost ne ways.

texas is so hot an humid, it was disguisting
in case u don't noe, i went there for the junior olympics for volleyball
we got FIFTH. we lost the match right before the medal rounds.
it sucks like a mo. but still fifth is pretty good.
the trip was sorta awesome. I GOT DIP AND DOTS everyday (well, when riley let me). they are my lover.
anyways i love my team and i can't believe we have to break up after we just bonded. POLLY, HERE I COME, next yr is party mania right leslie? and lisa u noe i might need those "tips" soon if u noe what i mean. and christine i gotta get the hook up with #35 he is freakn' hot.
ps. my mood is "chipper" cuz i have no clue what that means

hey the cruise was so much fun
seriously it was awesome so many stories to tell
well on fri we got on the boat and let me tell you.. it was huge
we had a pull down bed but it said only authorized personel could pull it down. so we decided to call the cabin stwerd to pull it down. Roxanne called and this guy who had this really fruity voice. he was like hiyaaaa. roxanne was like this guys is a fruit cake. he asked what her name was and she hesitated because i mean this guys was pretty wierd. so she hesitated but said her name was roxanne. he asked if SHE WAS DRUNK because she hesitated to say her name. so anyways, he came to our room and roxy was freaked out. so she made me pretend that i was roxy! alice said her name was ashley and roxy said hers was nicole. i was so scared! he like refused to pull the bed down! he aske me (pretending to be roxy) that if i were in the jungle how would i pull the bed down. i was like if i were in the jungle there would be no bed to pull down. so in the end, he left us to decide how to pull it down ourselves....but if u think about it, wasn't that his job?
there is so much more to talk about like the drunk lady in the elevator, jay-bugger, and alice's bitchy pants...but i'm tired of talking so well save those topics and my pics for another entry

Today was the last day of school!!!!
I had a Math, and Spanish final but then after we were free!
me anish roxy kristy jessica max nathanial james matt all went over to sallys house and watched harry potter..we took some hot emo pics and it was lots of fun..i really like sallys house
then we went to a graduation party for alex chu it was lots of fun but the food wasnt too hot so me n roxy are eating brownies w/ ice cream and its way good.. yea when i figure out how to put pics up i definately willl
We also just found out that on the cruise we're going on tomorrow there is going to be dancing for teens and movies and such and we are waAAy EXITED! but bummed cuz we have to miss geoff's party but still WAyty EXITED!

so today i had a wonderful private on the beach. as usual, my life is run by volleyball. so ne ways i can't wait for school to end. but i really don't wannna take finals. summer is gonna be awesome.
u noe in like all those movies where like people become like totally differnt over summer beak, i wonder if that could really happen. wouldn't that be super cool. like pretened some not hot guys comes back next year as a super hot guy. i really hope that happens because a lot of the guys at troy neeed to take some "how- to -be -a -hot -guy lessons".

so hey hey there peps. this is officially my second entry. roxanne would be soo proud. omg i saw the hottest guy at our school today. i didn't even noe he went here. and now its the end of the year and i think he's a senior so its a total bust!
ok so if u haven't seen my wonderful close up picture at kristy's livejournal, don't go. i'm warining you. procede with extreme caution. see kristy doesn't even tell the story behind it. ok so roxy and i were at kristy's house in palm springs and it was really late at night and we all at a whole bunch of candy and stuff. i was a little loopy and i decide i was helen keller. yes i noe how totally random is that. but any ways i thught i was helen keller and i was blind and deft. so durring this wonderful sugar high kristy breaks out the camera and decideds "its photo time"! how wonderful. and now there on the internet for all to see.

This is my first entry. My name is nicole. I go to troy and i play volleyball.Thats basicly all i do. Roxy says i can write ne thing in here. so were here at roxy house and there was nothing on tv so here we are, and i finnaly have a live journal. we ate some pretty mean weinersnizel and ate mean girls i mean saw mean girls. ok well time to make my journal sexy for y'all so adios amigos.
